£23,400 – £30,100 per annum

MS is a diverse company of collaborative individuals creating bespoke and proactive approaches to heritage and non-heritage geophysics. With a focus on integrating techniques that provide unbiased advice and the opportunity for industry development.

The Company has grown organically from 3 to over 50 employees over the past 7 years. We work alongside major archaeological contractors on a wide range of exciting projects throughout the UK, including small-scale community surveys and national-scale infrastructure projects. We are a CIfA Registered Organisation and a member of FAME.

We are looking to recruit into fieldwork focussed roles, at various grades, for a start date in late July/early August due to an expected increase in workload following arable harvest.

Geophysical Field Assistant To conduct geophysical survey throughout the UK: undertaken alongside a Supervisor, involving a range of techniques including Magnetometry, Electromagnetic and Ground Penetrating Radar. The ability to:

–        Work under pressure and adapt to changeable conditions or equipment issues is critical.

–        Work in a small team under supervision.

–        Solve problems appropriate to job level.

–        Communicate effectively with both colleagues and managers.

 

£23,400 – £24,900

Band: M2

Geophysical Field Supervisor As above plus Supervisors are responsible for:–        Ensuring work is carried out to a safe and efficient standard.

–        Quality assessing data while fieldwork is ongoing.

–        Planning of survey strategy for the week ahead.

–        Leading troubleshooting and in-field repairs, with assistance from the Office.

–        Production of site documents, including site notes and photos, survey considerations and risk assessments.

–        Data analysis and interpretation, and report writing for magnetic and non-standard heritage surveys (with assistance and guidance from others).

The ability to:

–        Critically assess and review the impact of unexpected events on a survey schedule and understanding when to inform the Project Officer.

–        Work under pressure and adapt to changeable conditions or equipment issues is critical.

–        Solve problems appropriate to job level.

–        Communicate effectively with both colleagues and managers.

–        Write a geophysical report, with assistance if required.

£24,900 – £26,500

Band: M3

Senior Geophysics Supervisor Senior Supervisors are responsible for leading the planning on survey strategy during the course of fieldwork, including large sites over multiple weeks and for non-standard surveys. Senior Supervisors are expected to take the lead on complex reporting tasks, supporting junior staff. Senior Supervisors are responsible for ensuring jobs are undertaken within the allotted forecasted budget, both in terms of surveying and reporting.

Field survey: including supervising teams and ensuring work is carried out to a safe and efficient standard. Survey will include a range of geophysical techniques. QA data from the survey while fieldwork is ongoing.

–        Planning of survey strategy for multiple weeks/teams

–        Equipment maintenance and repairs: supervisors are responsible for leading troubleshooting and in-field repairs, with minimal assistance from the Office.

Site paperwork: responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of site paperwork (including site notes, site photos, survey considerations, and DRA/SSRA).

–        Data analysis, interpretation and report writing of heritage magnetic data with minimal assistance from others.

–        Assisting junior staff with reporting tasks.

–        Ability to critically assess and review the impact of unexpected events on a survey schedule and understanding when to inform the Project Officer.

–        Creativity is desirable, but the ability to work under pressure and adapt to changeable survey conditions or equipment issues is critical.

–        Highly competent with setting up and using different magnetic survey systems.

–        Familiar with setting up and using non-magnetic equipment (e.g. EM and GPR). Training can be given for any specific knowledge gaps.

–        Good understanding of written scientific English

–        Proficiency in GIS, Microsoft Office & Windows environments are essential. Familiarity with Unix, ReflexW & Geoplot are desirable.

–        Very good understanding of heritage magnetic data and reasonable understanding of other geophysical data

–        Ability to independently write a geophysical report.

–        Consistently high level of reporting, training will be provided to cover limited knowledge gaps.

– Confidently liaising with landowners and members of the public.

 

£26,500 – £30,100

Band: M4

Due to the nature of these roles, tasks will include extended periods of walking across rough terrain and loading/unloading of equipment.

A full clean driving license is required for these roles.

Progression: Employees can expect to advance to the next role as required competency levels are achieved
